    What is this site?

This website began as a contact point between myself and my clients. I've now opened the site up to everyone so please feel free to explore. Remember, however, this site represents personal opinions and ideas. If you like my site and would like to suggest some features to be added then please contact me.

    Who am I?

My name is Sarah Jones and I work as a freelance IT consultant, specialising in heritage systems. Originally a field archaeologist I re-trained in Computer Science and now have 12 years of experience developing database systems and data driven websites.

Examples of some of the systems I have been involved in are:

    • Çatalhöyük Research Project
Centralisation of disparate specialist datasets with visual front ends and the provision of an on-line search facility for a major archaeological project in Turkey.
    • The London Archaeological Archive and Resource Centre
On-line searchable databases for the new archaeological archive in London (LAARC). Now maintained by the Museum of London Systems Team.
    • The Source East Web Portal (currently off-line)
Museums, archives and libraries information sharing portal for the east of England. Now maintained by Software Development Services.
    • The Hertfordshire Observatory
The data sharing portal for Hertfordshire County Council and its district councils. I developed the mapping interface that utilises ESRI's ArcIMS software. Now maintained by Hertfordshire County Council.
Prior to becoming a freelance consultant I worked for the The Museum of London developing the LAARC Information System, listed above, and before this as a Senior Software Engineer with Software Development Services (SDS). Whilst working for SDS I was involved in developing systems for a diverse range of customers from the Health and Safety Laboratories to the University of Hertfordshire and Bedfordshire County Archaeology Service (now known as Albion Archaeology). I also worked on a large number of systems for the SDS sister company Action Software Systems whose client base includes many well-known companies.

I am available for contract work and if you would like to receive a full copy of my CV then please email me
